It will become quite obvious to you why you should hire Anne Harvey shortly after you consult with her. In my situation I did not find her (unfortunately) until my initial lawyer botched my case beyond recognition (even doing more damage than had I had no lawyer at all - truly).
Naively entering into my divorce I mistakenly believed someone of even average competence could get their arms around my case and pilot me through to a sensible decision. Wrong! And when left with the results of his incompetent counsel, and beyond that when the other side appealed the decision, it was THEN that I found Anne Harvey and it is from my lesson where you can learn something here so listen up.
What you need to recognize when you're shopping for a lawyer:
You need to appreciate that the lawyer fees are going to be different but also true are their billable hours. Note that. And what you will discover in the end is that a lawyer who's average in the practice of divorce law is going to not only get you average representation, but, they're going to take longer to figure out what they're doing. And in most cases this lack of sharpness costs you much of the leverage you would otherwise deserve and sends you down a slope of ever-snowballing weakness. And when your lawyer hesitates due to a lack of familiarity with what they're confronting, is intimidated because they find themselves unprepared for the situation, or s/he gets thrown a curve ball because they're still wet behind the ears in the area of divorce law - well - guess who's going to get stuck with the result that a lack of competence yields for you in your case? Yeah that's right, it's not your lawyer, it's you! And you're also going to get stuck with your bill which adds injury to insult.
So what I'm trying to communicate here is that you need to quit making the mistake of hitching yourself to the wrong person (you're in divorce court, right?). And it should be obvious after consulting with Anne that she grasps a situation immediately, appreciates the consequences relevant to a set of facts, and separates material from misdirection tactics which saves a ton of time and the other side would know to cut the crap before they even start it with her. This means as a client you neither pay for a bunch of billable hours while some other dumbass lawyer tries to figure-out your case and still never gets it right. And it means you get a better result because she is able to correctly evaluate the relevance of your situation at the moment it's presented. I can't over-emphasize how critical this will be to your case. It's the difference between some high school kid with an instruction manual rebuilding your vehicle's transmission compared to somebody who's designed and rebuilt transmissions their entire life. And if you don't appreciate the difference between what the results of those two scenarios yields then good luck to you.
Alright, it's starting to feel like maybe this is coming from one of Anne's high school friends who's trying to superficially generate some business for her or something. But I assure you this is not the case and have only met the woman in person once on a chance meeting. But I did consult with her twice over the phone and it is from this experience that I learned she is the one I wish I'd have hired at the beginning and she straightened out my case with me over the phone to where I could just handle it myself. And having gone through all the crap I had to go through just because I didn't quite **get it** insofar as getting a good lawyer is concerned - well - I wish somebody had alerted me to all that I never believed could happen. I strongly encourage you to at least rule her out before moving onto another potential lawyer but expect you will quickly see that she's the one-stop shopping that you thought you could only dream about.
